The observed performances are discussed with the students. The situation where the roles of dancers in choreography and dance performance are discussed with students is analyzed.
SITUATION ANALYSIS
SITUATION STRENGTHS
DIVIDED INTO GROUPS (PERFORMERS AND SPECTATORS), THE STUDENTS LEARN TO ANALYZE DANCE, EVALUATE ITS DIFFERENT ELEMENTS, GROUP WORK AND DANCERS' ROLES WHEN PERFORMING THE COMBINATION. BY PROVIDING THE POSSIBLE ROLES THAT THE DANCERS TAKE DURING THE PERFORMANCE (STARS, TECHNICIANS AND NEUTRALS), THE STUDENTS LEARN TO TAKE THE ROLE THAT SUITS THEIR CHARACTER AND FIND THEIR PLACE IN THE DANCE ACCORDING TO IT. THIS WAY THEY REALIZE THAT EVERYONE HAS THEIR ROLE IN THE GROUP WHICH IS NEEDED TO MAKE THE SHOW SUCCESSFUL. THIS IS HOW COMMUNICATION, COGNITIVE AND SOCIAL COMPETENCES ARE DEVELOPED.
WEAKNESSES OF THE SITUATION
STUDENTS WHO THINK THEY ARE ASSIGNED TO THE WRONG ROLE MAY NOT WANT TO CONTINUE WITH DANCE LESSONS.
POSSIBILITIES OF THE SITUATION
BY ANALYZING HOW THE DANCE IS PERFORMED, IDENTIFYING THE CHARACTERISTICS THAT A DANCER SHOULD HAVE, THE STUDENTS WILL ADJUST THE CHARACTERISTICS TO THEMSELVES AND DISCOVER THEM DURING THE DANCE. THIS WAY, THEY IMPROVE NOT ONLY AS DANCERS, BUT ALSO AS TEAM MEMBERS.
SITUATION THREATS
STUDENTS MAY REJECT ROLE ASSIGNMENT OR BE OFFENDED BY THE CHARACTERISTICS ASSIGNED TO THEM. THEREFORE, IT IS IMPORTANT TO TALK ABOUT ROLES WITHOUT APPLYING THEM TO SPECIFIC STUDENTS, BUT EMPHASIZING WHY EACH ROLE IN THE GROUP IS IMPORTANT AND UNIQUE.
SITUATION REFLECTION
Analyzing different roles not only in dance, but also in a group or a team, students are taught to take responsibility for their role in supporting the team and successfully completing the task. In dance, group work is especially important, the ability to adapt to others, to create the attitude that each member is important and without them the dance would not be effective or interesting. Often, when starting to dance, students feel awkward if they are not familiar with a particular dance style, if there are better dancers in the group than them, or if they make mistakes during the dance. Therefore, it is important to teach them about the different roles, what their characteristics are, and why those characteristics are important. In this way, students will understand that everyone can find their place in the team and their role will contribute to the successful performance of the dance. However, it is important to talk about roles without simply attaching them to a specific student, because they may not agree with the assignment of the role, they may not be able to communicate their dissatisfaction. Therefore, they may choose to stop taking dance lessons.
